The Desert Lynx is registered with the Rare and Exotic Feline Registry (R.E.F.R.). The Desert Lynx is comparable to the T.I.C.A. and CFA Pixie-Bob. Both breeds are based upon a Foundation or Legend cat. A Foundation or Legend cat is the suspected product of a breeding between a domestic cat and a North American Bobcat (Lynx Rufus). Because the Pixie-bob is a long established breed in TICA and CFA, outcrosses to other breeds are not allowed, or only certain crosses are allowed. In the Desert Lynx the generations removed from the Foundation or Legend cat is tracked, and to be Stud Book Registered, must be within the first 3 generations from the Foundation Cat. In these early generations however, more freedom is given to the outcrosses. This allows the Desert Lynx breeders much more freedom in choosing a specific look or quality to enhance the desired qualities. These qualities may be coat texture, color or pattern, tail length, leg length, polydactals, eye shape and color, shape of the head, and so on. Here at Exotic Fx we are working with 3 different lines. The traditional Desert Lynx kittens that resemble the Bobcat, with warm golden coats, nice spotting and short tails. We are also working on a variant that is bred to look like a Canadian Lynx, with cooler smokey colors, such as Cinnamon smoke, chocolate smoke, and blues. We are working with the Snow Bobs as well. which is a Desert Lynx in Snow colors such as seal and lynx point. There is also a Fourth variation on the Desert Lynx called the Highland Lynx, which has curled ears.
